The No. #1 Question That Everyone In Upvc Replacement Door Handles Must Know How To Answer

UPVC Replacement Door Handles

As time passes, the handles on your doors will get worn out and require replacement. When replacing them, it is crucial that the new handles conform to the dimensions of the handle that was previously used.

The three measurements to be inspected are the top screw position, lever and key hole sizes. Use the size guide to help you.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever handle is a modern-day door handle designed to work with new or replacement doors. This style of door handle is available in a variety of styles and finishes. This handle is available from a number of manufacturers including Avocet ERA Fullex Hoppe Mila Millenco Yale.

Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle

The door handles made of uPVC/Composite are made of robust materials and are suitable for doors with multi-point locks that require a strong design. The handles are inline and work with the same spindle as well as screw fixings. They can be easily fitted to doors made of uPVC/Composite, either new or old.

The sprung lever design allows the handle to be positioned and angled for comfortable operation and is suitable for all users. The handle has been endurance tested to 200,000 cycles. This helps to ensure the quality of the finish and performance of the handle over time. The lever that is sprung can be cut to fit more locks. This is particularly useful in doors that are narrower, where the cylinder is situated further back from the door. A lever that is shorter can be used on doors with a latch which can be operated with the thumb on the inside.

Lever Pad

A Lever Pad door handle made of upvc functions differently than lever handles that are found on the majority of doors. The handle can use a single spindle (inline) or independently from each side by using two inline or offset spindles (pad). They are typically used on UPVC double-glazed doors and come in many variations & finishes.

The handles are available in various finishes, including White chrome and Gold. The finish is in line with BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, which gives the handle a high degree of durability and performance for the intended use.

All UPVC lever pads for handles include a spindle and screws and can be installed on the uPVC door. The 211mm backplate fixing centres allow for a wider handle, which can often be a benefit in replacing a defective or worn multi point door lock mechanism. These handle levers are also sprung, solving the problem of door handles sagging out of the horizontal position when not in use.

When choosing a replacement UPVC handle and spindle it is crucial to match the dimensions of the PZ of both the multipoint lock and the uPVC door. This measurement can also be called 'handle centres or cylinder centre'. It is important for matching the correct handles.

After you have identified the correct size of PZ it is important to make sure that the lever and push pads are shaped to match the American with Disabilities Act compliant handles you require for your door. These are usually round or square with an internal lever and an external push pad.

The majority of the UPVC Lever Pads we offer are sprung. This means that they return to a horizontal position after not in use instead of hanging, and possibly being stuck in the frame. This stops draughts from entering the home. The majority of UPVC lever pad style handles come in both left and right handed models which allows them to be installed on either side of doors.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are typically used on uPVC doors, but they can also be used on other types of doors. They work with a key to unlock a cylinder case which is then revealed with pins that can be aligned to those in the lock body, allowing them to turn an revolving cam, opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins. External and internal doors require different levels of security.

The choice of cylinder you choose is essential. It's dependent on the type of use your doors and handles will receive. For instance, exterior doors should be fitted with a higher security cylinder, while internal doors can be secured with a standard cylinder. Some cylinders have extra features that can improve security, for instance, anti drill or anti bump properties.

To ensure that the euro cylinder is of the right size for your door, it must be measured correctly. The cylinder needs to be measured from the screw hole at the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn, if there is one. If you cannot measure using the lock in its position, you can remove it. A cylinder that protrudes beyond the handle and escutcheon might be susceptible to attacks like lock snapping, so it is crucial that it's not too long.

The design of many modern cylinders has anti-drilling and bump resistance features.  upvc door handle  are designed to decrease the risk of attack by forcing the cylinder rotate in a different direction. This will help to deflect an attack and keep your door safe.

There are also cylinders that have been designed to withstand snapping. This is a common occurrence on cylinders. A specific tool is used to break the break line of the lock and then the front of the cylinder is snapped off. This is a much faster and more convenient method of gaining access than through a multipoint locking system. It also leaves less evidence of the burglary which can hinder insurance claims.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette is found inside the base plate of the door handle. It provides a sprung solution to return the multipoint lock handles to their original position after usage. There was a time when handles of this kind did not have a spring integrated into them, and as a result, they tend to droop or  drop when the locking mechanism is disengaged. This simple feature is among the best methods to correct this and it is also an excellent way to stop your doors made of upvc from getting stuck in either closed or open position, since they aren't always easy to close manually.

These spring cassettes were designed to be used with a spring multipoint lock. They will not fit handles that are not sprung, and you will have to cut a hole into the backplate to allow them to fit. (Please see the image for a technical diagram). These cassettes are a replacement to damaged or missing cassettes in the backplate of uPVC door handles. They are supplied in one unit. They feature a square cut out that is able to accommodate an 8mm shaft.

These spring cassettes are a fantastic cost-effective way to fix the problem of handles on your doors sagging. They are easy to fit and will increase the lifespan of your uPVC doors.
